Myers Cocktail IV: What It Is, What’s Inside, and Who It’s For

Dripology

The Myers Cocktail IV is one of the oldest and most established blends in modern IV therapy. It was developed by Dr. John Myers, a Baltimore physician, in the mid-twentieth century, and refined into its widely used form by Dr. Alan Gaby. Today it is the workhorse drip behind much of what medspas and integrative clinics offer, including Dripology.

What is in a Myers Cocktail

A standard Myers Cocktail combines a small set of vitamins and minerals delivered intravenously in a saline base:

  • Vitamin C, typically 5 to 10 grams in concierge medspa formulations
  • Magnesium chloride or sulfate, which acts as a smooth muscle relaxant
  • Calcium gluconate, often included in smaller doses
  • B-complex, including B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6
  • Vitamin B12 as either methylcobalamin or hydroxocobalamin

The exact ratios vary slightly by clinic. At Dripology, our Myers Cocktail is prepared by the RN at the time of your visit and reviewed against your intake form before the line is started.

How each ingredient works in the body

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin involved in collagen synthesis, immune cell function, and antioxidant activity. Magnesium is a cofactor for hundreds of enzymatic reactions, and many adults run at the lower end of optimal range. B vitamins are coenzymes for energy metabolism, particularly for converting food into ATP. B12 supports red blood cell formation and nervous system maintenance.

None of these are exotic compounds. The reason the IV route matters is bioavailability. Oral vitamin C absorption tapers off above about 200 mg per dose. The IV route bypasses gut absorption limits and produces serum levels that are not achievable orally over a comparable timeframe.

Who the Myers Cocktail may support

The Myers Cocktail is positioned as a general wellness drip. Clients book it for support during a busy season at work, after travel, during a demanding training block, or when run down from a stressful stretch. It is not designed to address any specific medical condition, and it is not a substitute for sleep, nutrition, or care from your physician.

Many of our LA and NYC clients keep the Myers Cocktail as their default monthly drip and add NAD+ or glutathione on top when they want a more targeted session.

How a Myers Cocktail session runs at Dripology

You arrive, complete intake with your RN, and settle into a private suite. The bag is mixed at the time of service. Most Myers Cocktails run for 30 to 45 minutes. The most common in-session sensation is warmth and a brief metallic or vitamin taste, which comes from the B vitamins and resolves on its own within a minute or two.

Some clients feel a slight flush from the magnesium if the rate is fast. Your RN will adjust the drip rate if you find it uncomfortable. After the session, most clients walk out and continue their day normally. Some report a noticeable lift in energy the same afternoon, others over the following day.

How often clients book it

The Myers Cocktail is well tolerated for regular use. A common cadence is once a month for general wellness, or once a week during a heavier stretch (recovery from international travel, an intense filming or trial schedule, or peak athletic training). Your RN can recommend a cadence after reviewing your intake.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Myers Cocktail different from a basic hydration IV?

A basic hydration drip is saline plus electrolytes. The Myers Cocktail adds the full vitamin and mineral panel above, which is the part that makes the drip feel different.

Can the Myers Cocktail be combined with other IV add-ons?

Yes. Glutathione, additional B12, NAD+, and amino acid blends can be added based on your goals. Your RN will confirm which combinations are appropriate for your visit.

How long does a Myers Cocktail take at Dripology?

Most sessions run 30 to 45 minutes from line-in to line-out, plus about 10 minutes for intake on a first visit.

The Myers Cocktail is available at both Dripology locations, in Beverly Hills (Los Angeles) and Flatiron (New York City). Contact the concierge team to book a session or to ask which add-ons may be appropriate for you.
